RIGHT ON TRACK

Everybody needs a boyfriend shirt. Even if they don't have a boyfriend. I am, and probably will always be, a big fan of the oversized look. Particularly when it comes to wardrobe staples like button ups and t-shirts. It definitely brings a casual vibe to any outfit. And while I don't believe you can ever be 'overdressed', sometimes it's nice to look more understated.

On another note I've added a blog roll to the side bar. It's full of some amazing blogs that I drool over everyday. And the best part- they're all Australian. So check them out if you're like me and always looking for new blogs to follow. And this is my 100th post. Woo. Hoo. We made it. Thanks for reading, commenting and following. You make my day.

BEYOND THE SUNSET

Little known fact. Summer is hot in Australia. And the best way to combat the heat and stay comfortable is to throw on a t-shirt dress. Get the right one (like mine) and it'll be one of the most versatile items of clothing you'll own. Guarantee. Just a simple change of shoes and you've gone from a day to an evening look in a heartbeat.

I, however, opted for the no-shoes look. Made it easier to clamber down rocks to the waters edge. And boy was it worth it. Wearing my favourite dress (definitely worth the pre-order wait). Having the best view over the lake. And getting there just in time to wave goodbye to the sun for another day. Just perfect. Though it's in these twilight moments when I can't help but wonder what's beyond the sunset...

FIELD OF DREAMS

Black and white. The ultimate badass combo. Add sunglasses swag and I feel very Bonnie and Clyde-esque. Like I can take on the world (not like a criminal.) And I really need to have the confidence that I can take on anything. You see, compared to last year, my dreams and aspirations have changed dramatically and it has me questioning.

From major changes- I'm taking on a new degree at university. (Bye journalism. Hello law.) To the smaller ones- Gradually changing my hair colour (Let's see if I make it to blonde). I'm hoping I can rustle up the confidence from my outfit and project it onto real life to deal with these changes. It's time to stop asking the 'what if' questions. They get you nowhere. I've just got to throw caution to the wind. Yep. It's time to run into the field of dreams.

Big Day Out '13

We all have big days (and big nights), but none come close to the Big Day Out. With music being my other great love (sorry fashion, you're going to have to make some room) this was one line up I wasn't going to miss. Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Killers. Vampire Weekend. Band of Horses. And heaps of other Aussie and international acts, I couldn't have dreamed of anything better.

Here's what I wore. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a full length photo. So I did what any good blogger does and make it up (almost exactly item for item) on Polyvore.  Dungarees are a festival must. As are a sold pair of boots. But oh my... there were so many fashion fails. But that will have to wait for another post.

BDO

Side note: I wanted to start including music into my blog. What do you guys think?

CITY SLICKER

What to wear when you're going on a city safari. You want to blend in with the natives as much as possible. I'm not talking about the business professionals, but the city slickers. That means dress by the three C's. Keep it comfortable, casual, and above all, cool. The last one, while an outfit rule, doubles for  your attitude.

For my venture into the concrete jungle, I decided to keep it neutral. Black, off-white, grey, khaki. The more traditional safari colours. Boots are made for exploring. They're comfortable and reliable enough to out-walk me on any occasion. But don't get too bogged down in the practicality of an outfit. Always throw on a few simple accessories. A watch and a necklace; less is more. Now off you go. Get exploring.

ON THE EDGE

Playsuits. My latest clothing love. While I've always seemed to have one or two floating around my wardrobe, I've come to the realisation that this is not enough. Some people are born with a sour hostility towards the playsuit. Is it a dress? Is it shorts? Their minds seem unable to fathom such questions. And ultimately leads to brains imploding.

It is both dress and shorts. The most perfect combination if ever I knew one. It solves two age old problems. Number one: what top will I wear with these shorts? Number two: will I flash anyone if my dress is blown up by the wind? This paisley playsuit has given the confidence to literally stand on the edge where there is a slight breeze and know that today I will not flash my underwear. Come on, if that's not reason enough to get a playsuit or three. And I haven't even mentioned how comfortable they are yet (oh, just did).

SHADED BY SUNSHINE

Dreary days can be a real dampener. Without the sun motivation is lost. Clouds can seem to cover more than the sky. They can hide away aspiration and hope. Their presence deters action. It's this shade that we all have in our lives that we need to step out of. Me especially. Chase the sunlight until you're being showered in it. Leave the shadows that have held you back. Become more proactive. Before you know it, you'll be that free spirit- only to be shaded by sunshine, not clouds.

And so here's my take on 'free-spirit-Izzy'. (Bear in mind I'm not very boho.) Comfort is key. Isn't it always? Hence my staple Ray Bans, chain necklace and leather boots. There's not a lot more hippie than a wolf howling inside a dream catcher. Add a few tassels and we're getting free-er by the second. Only one thing left. To stand under a yellow tree so I'm quite literally (well... actually figuratively) shaded by sunshine.

SEEN BETTER DAYS

I have a thing for many old buildings. Though this would have to be my biggest crush. Every flake of paint. Every shard of glass. Every layer of wooden vanish on this building contributes to its character. And oh my, does this old girl have character.  Unfortunately in these pictures you cannot see her in all the double storey glory. (Tall buildings and narrow streets make for difficult photographing.) So let this just be a tease.

With the holiday season just coming to an end (hence my recent hiatus) I can't help but feel that I, much like this building behind me, have seen better days. To clarify this isn't a black cloud I cast over a distant future, but a rather brief, passing feeling of 'what next'. When a holiday- a period of time crammed with as many enjoyable things and lovely people as possible- is over I come down in a mild 'funk'. (Not the 1970s kind.) It's only for a couple of days, then I awaken feeling like a clean slate. Much like my outfit. Crisp, comfortable, fresh. Ready to tackle the better days that wait ahead.
